By: E&P Staff CityXpress will conduct 63 event auctions in March and April, the company said in a statement today. The increase in auctions -- up nearly 28 percent from the same period last year -- marks a record number for the company, which will conduct 32 in March alone.
"Our XpressAuction program is continuing to flourish and gain support from newspapers across the U.S., Canada and parts of Europe," Phil Dubois, president and CEO of CityXpress, said in a statement.
The program allows newspapers to auction off goods and services offered by local retailers who earn advertising credits and exposure through the sale. Auctions help newspapers gain new advertising clients and increase revenue from existing advertisers. CityXpress has staged auctions for Knight Ridder, MediaNews Group, Cox Enterprises, Scripps Howard, and the New York Times Co., among other organizations.
