Class Action Suit Against Belo Dismissed

By: E&P Staff Shareholders that filed a class action lawsuit against Belo were dealt a blow on Thursday. The United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas dismissed the case against Belo and other defendants listed in the suit. However, the court granted plaintiffs leave to file an amended complaint.

A group of Belo shareholders filed the case after circulation misstatements were announced at Belo's flagship paper, The Dallas Morning News, in 2004.

"While we have not yet had an opportunity to study the court's opinion in detail, we are very pleased the court granted the motions to dismiss," said Guy Kerr, senior vice president, law and government for Belo, in a statement. "If the plaintiffs' lawyers replead their complaints, we will continue our vigorous defense because we believe the lawsuits are without merit."
