Classified Ventures Inc. (CV) Friday named Daniel A. Jauernig president and CEO of the Chicago-based company.

Jauernig, 35, replaces David G. Israel, who resigned to pursue another business opportunity. Jauernig had joined CV as executive vice president in April and assumed responsibilities for strategic planning and operations.

"My vision as CEO is to continue to develop high quality online classified advertising products for our affiliates and trade customers," Jauernig said. "Our strategic advantage in these very competitive categories is the local market advantage we have through our affiliate network of online newspapers."

Jauernig joined CV from the former Toronto-based Newcourt Credit Group, a financial services company, where he served as its CFO and president of Newcourt Services.

Classified Ventures is owned by six newspaper companies: Gannett Co. Inc., Knight Ridder, The McClatchy Co., The New York Times Co., Tribune Co., and The Washington Post Co. The CV affiliate network, of which 134 newspaper sites are members, consists of the five sites, including cars.com, Apartments.com, HomeFinder.com, NewHomeNetwork.com, and MovingCenter.com.
