Claudia Cohen, Gossip Queen, Dies at 57

By: E&P Staff Famed gossip columnist Claudia Cohen died yesterday from cancer. She was 57.

The New York Times called it ovarian cancer, the Daily News, where she once worked, said it was stomach cancer.

Her friend Bob Colacello, the magazine writer, told the Daily News, "Claudia came from a wealthy family, married a billionaire and knew the most famous people in the world, she was always a girl from the Jersey suburbs. She never put on airs." The billionaire was ex-husband Ron Perelman.

After that divorce, Sen. Al D'Amato famously called a press conference to announce that he was in love with her.

Cohen helped establish Page Six at the New York Post in the 1970s and later penned the "I, Claudia" column for the Daily News.
