Clay Bennett Wins 2005 Fischetti Prize

By: E&P Staff Clay Bennett of The Christian Science Monitor has won the John Fischetti Award for editorial cartooning, which carries a cash prize of $5,000.

Bennett, who's syndicated by The Christian Science Monitor News Service, also won in 2001. His first-place 2005 entry shows American soldiers, in an Iwo Jima-like pose, propping up a house of cards with "Iraq" on the back of each card.

The contest -- sponsored by Columbia College Chicago -- also gave honorable mentions to Steve Breen of The San Diego Union-Tribune and Copley News Service and Nick Anderson of The Courier-Journal of Louisville and the Washington Post Writers Group.

More than 200 cartoons were entered by 72 cartoonists.
