By: The New York Times' posting online of a second review of Bill Clinton's memoir, "My Life," 11 days before it will appear in print was not "unprecedented," as E & P and several other news outlets have suggested.
The second review, by Larry McMurtry, set to run July 4 in the Sunday Book Review, is far more favorable than the first, which ran on the paper's front page last Sunday.
Times' spokeswoman Kathy Park points out, "We have made book reviews available to our readers in advance of publication before," when they "are deemed particularly newsworthy by our editors."
She lists as examples reviews of three well-known books from this spring by Bob Woodward, Joseph Wilson, and Richard Clarke, which all appeared online 11 or more days before print publication.
