Ottawa-based Cold North Wind Inc. has signed a letter of intent with the Institute of Bibliographic Research at the National Autonomous University of Mexico to digitize "a significant number of historical newspapers and periodicals" held at the university in Mexico City with the objective of making them available on the Internet.
The partnership will include a feasibility study and international fund raising. Full terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The institute, through the holdings of both the National Library and the National Newspaper and Magazine Library, has a large collection, in original paper and on microfilm, from the 18th century (including the Gaceta de México), through the first two decades of the 20th century.
