By: The university-backed daily newspaper at the world's first journalism school will attempt to cut mounting losses by scaling back to five printed editions a week.
University officials announced Monday that the Columbia Missourian will keep a print edition and retain home delivery five days a week.
Annual losses that topped $1 million in recent years prompted school leaders to consider their alternatives.
The school says eliminating the Saturday and Monday editions will save about $350,000 each year.
Provost Brian Foster said there is consensus among students, faculty and alumni to "maintain a significant print newspaper presence as a laboratory experience" for journalism students.
