By: E&P Staff IHT.com, the Web site for The International Herald Tribune has announced a new collaboration with Columbia University where noted professors from the school's economics department will answer readers' questions on a blog dealing with issues of globalization.

Columbia professors Jagdish Bhagwati, Joseph Stiglitz and others will take a guest spot each month on Daniel Altman's Managing Globalization blog, and will interact with readers. Altman, the Herald Tribune's global economics correspondent and "Managing Globalization" columnist, will act as a moderator by selecting questions submitted online each month.

Michael Oreskes, the IHT's executive editor, called the collaboration "exciting" in a statement. "Messrs. Bhagwati and Stiglitz are among the world's best-known commentators on globalization, and Stiglitz is the winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics," he noted.

How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
