By: Dave Astor San Francisco Chronicle columnist Jon Carroll is the National Society of Newspaper Columnists' 2009 Ernie Pyle Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, the NSNC announced today.
Carroll, a California native who has been a Chronicle columnist since 1982, will be presented with the honor during the NSNC conference in Ventura/Los Angeles next June 25-28.
In addition to his time at the Chronicle, Carroll has also worked for The Village Voice, Rolling Stone, Women's Sports, and New West.
The NSNC names an Ernie Pyle winner on an annual basis. The 2008 recipient was Ellen Goodman of The Boston Globe and the Washington Post Writers Group.
In other 2009 NSNC conference news, Creators Syndicate humor columnist/"8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" author W. Bruce Cameron will present a workshop at the gathering.
