Columnists Pick 2007's Best and Worst New Food Products

By: E&P Staff "Supermarket Sampler" columnists Bonnie Tandy Leblang and Carolyn Wyman announced their 2007 "Golden Shopping Cart Award" winner as well as the year's other best and worst new food products.

After taste-testing more than 150 products in 2007, the Universal Press Syndicate writers picked "Birds Eye Steamfresh Frozen Vegetables" as their 18th-annual "Golden" favorite.

One of the six new products receiving "double forks down" from Leblang (a registered dietitian) and Wyman (a junk-food lover) was Campbell's line of "Chunky Fully Loaded Soups." The columnists said the soups are "fully loaded with calories and fat -- but not flavor."

Among Wyman's nine 2007 favorites were "Popsicle Slow Melt Pops" and "Kraft Philadelphia Ready-to-Eat Cheesecake Filling."

Leblang's nine favorites included "Kashi All Natural Pizza" and "Near East Whole Grain Blends Original Wheat Couscous," among other new products.
