By: Joe Strupp Dubbing it the "Survive and Thrive" conference, the National Society of Newspaper Columnists has announced that its annual event will be held in Ventura, Calif., June 25-28. It will include the likes of Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez and Creators Syndicate founder Rick Newcombe.
Newcombe "will talk about the impact of the 'new media' on both writers and syndicates in a morning session," while Lopez will be the keynote speaker at a Friday luncheon, a release stated.
Also featured is Jeffrey Zaslow, co-author of "The Last Lecture" and a columnist for The Wall Street Journal, who will conduct a workshop on feature writing.
"These three heavy-hitters will join Jon Carroll of the San Francisco Chronicle, who headlines the Saturday program," the release added. "He will give a morning talk on 'Longevity in This Crazy Field' and receive the 2009 Ernie Pyle Lifetime Achievement Award at the Saturday night awards banquet."
