By: E&P Staff The Conference Board reported a slow down in online help-wanted vacancies. Online job posts dropped 5% in January compared to December. Year-over-year though, it was up 7%. Though there was an increase, the organization was quick to point out that the growth is slowing.
"Job seekers may have to pound the pavement a bit harder to find the right job," Gad Levanon, an economist at the Conference Board, said in a statement. "These data suggest that the slow pace of labor demand will continue for months ahead and may even slow further."
The 5% decline in January was largely seasonal caused primarily by a 3.7% drop in new ads.
All nine regions measured by the Conference Board experienced declines in January (compared to December). Year-over-year, seven of the nine regions showed gains in labor demand with the exception of New England and the Pacific region which fell 2% and 10% respectively.
