Conn. Newsroom to Install SaxoPress

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Waterbury (Conn.) Republican-American bought an 82-seat SaxoPress publishing system from SaxoTech Inc. of Rockville, Md. -- the fourth daily to order the editorial system in the last three months.

It replaces an OpenPages content management system installed in 1996. In selecting SaxoPress, the paper cited the new system's support for its multiple editions, print and online, its text-proofing system, and integrated planning, production and archiving.

The Republican-American will install SaxoPress with QuarkXPress integrated for page layout and QuarkCopyDesk SE as the text editor. Besides the base system, the order included: Zoning copy-editing and pagination tools to speed production of zoned editorial pages on deadline with minimal repetitive labor; the Planning Module's newsroom planning and budgeting tools (which also function as a repository for group calendars, contacts, and story ideas); SaxoBRS Archive for long-term storage of all of published text, images and pages in a central, indexed repository; and the client/server Tansa Text Proofing System, which finds spelling, grammar, style and hyphenation errors.

The system in Waterbury will be integrated with Managing Editor's Ad Layout System and will run on Windows XP. Implementation begins this month and is expected be completed in May.
