Conviction Overturned In Stabbing Of Columnist

By: (AP) A state appeals court on Monday overturned the attempted murder conviction of a man sentenced to 40 years in prison for stabbing an Indianapolis Star columnist who was dating his ex-wife.

Scottie Edwards, 55, could be tried again after the Indiana Court of Appeals ruled jurors in his trial were given improper instructions before deliberations.

Police said Edwards stabbed Lynn Ford at least 10 times in February 2001. At the time, Ford wrote a column about minority issues and was the newspaper's assistant arts and entertainment editor. He died earlier this year of a heart attack.

A spokesman said the Marion County prosecutor's office would appeal.
