The approximately 60 Hawaii Tribune Herald employees represented by the Hawaii Newspaper Guild are set to vote June 25 on a tentative contract agreement at the Hilo daily.
E&P, citing a news report that turned out to be several weeks old, reported earlier Tuesday that little progress had been made in contract negotiations and there was a real possibility Hawaii could see its first newspaper strike since 1967. Earlier this year, members authorized local leaders to call a strike.
Details of the proposed contract were not disclosed publicly. The agreement, if approved, would replace a contract that expired in early 2002. Union members have worked under contract extensions since then.
