Correction of the Day: Reporter's Brother Had Key Role in Conflict

Posted
By: E&P Staff From the Sunday edition of The New York Times, which warranted not merely a "Correction" or "For the Record" but an "Editors' Note":

"An article in the Long Island section last Sunday about Fairwood Gardens, a Bay Shore apartment complex condemned by the Town of Islip in September, described a group of tenants who remained there in defiance of the order. The writer, Julia C. Mead, a freelancer, learned on Thursday from a report in Newsday that her brother Gavin Mead had an apartment in the complex, had obeyed the order to leave and had joined two other displaced tenants in a lawsuit against the town. Ms. Mead has voluntarily withdrawn from further coverage of the situation."
