CORRECTION: Thirteenth Street Media Buys 'Tucson Explorer'

Posted
By: E&P Staff Thirteenth Street Media Inc. has agreed to acquire Explorer Newspapers Inc., publisher of the controlled-circulation weekly Tucson (Ariz.) Explorer.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly suggested that Thirteenth Street Media owned the Colorado Daily, which serves Boulder and the University of Colorado.

The Colorado Daily is owned by Prairie Mountain Publishing Co. LLC, a 50/50 partnership of MediaNews Group Inc. and E.W. Scripps Co. It has no affiliation with the University of Colorado.

The sale of Explorer Newspapers was announced by Thirteenth Street's Randy Miller, who is publisher of the Colorado Daily and its former owner, and by Explorer stockholders Melanie Larson and Terry Brashear.

Dirks, Van Essen & Murray, a newspaper merger-and-acquisition firm based in Santa Fe, N.M., represented Explorer Newspapers in the transaction.
