Court Clears Way for Bakersfield Outsourcing

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Bakersfield Californian is free to pursue plans to outsource production after a Federal Court denied an injunction sought by the union representing the paper's pressroom workers, and an arbitrator found no evidence that the union contract had been violated.

The paper's pressroom and platemaking employees filed labor grievances at the beginning of the year after learning of the owners' plans to hand over printing operations to outside contractor Brad Moseley, Inc. of Reno, Nevada. BMI has been handling the Californian's post-press operations since 2004 (E&P Online 01/17/08).
