Thomson Corp. announced today the sale of two Ohio daily
newspapers and 10 non-dailies to Atlanta-based Cox Newspapers
Inc. for an undisclosed amount.

Thomson previously announced the sale of these papers, which
make up the Southwest Ohio strategic marketing group, to Gannett
on June 8. However, Cox Newspapers exercised its right of first
refusal on Thomson's Southwest Ohio properties. Gannett will now
buy 19 daily newspapers and 23 non-dailies.

Cox Newspapers will add the Middletown Journal and The
Journal-News in Hamilton to its 16 daily newspapers. Cox
Newspapers' holdings include The Atlanta Journal-

Constitution and Austin (Texas) American-

Statesman.

Thomson Corp. earlier this week announced the sale of the
Connecticut Post to Denver-based MediaNews Group Inc.,
concluding the sale of all of its U.S. newspaper operations.
Thomson, which plans to concentrate on its global e-information
company, got a total of $2.44 billion for its U.S. newspapers.
