Creators Columnist Schultz Fires Back at Blogger Jarvis Over Protecting Web Content

Posted
By: E&P Staff Plain Dealer columnist Connie Schultz has fired back at blogger Jeff Jarvis of BuzzMachine.com for taking her to task over her views on new efforts to "protect" newspapers from Web links and possible copyright infringement. Schultz is married to U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown.

"First note well that Schultz is married to U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown as she calls on her newspapers and employer (my former employer, Advance Publications) and fellow columnists to influence Congress to remake copyright," Jarvis wrote on his blog. "She should be registered as a lobbyist. No joke."

Schultz responds, "Mr. Jarvis felt the immediate need to dwell on my marriage, rather than flesh out anything about my seven years as a columnist at The Plain Dealer. ... I am not directly lobbying Congress, nor is my husband taking a significant role on this proposed legislation, which Mr. Jarvis would have known had he bothered to pick up the phone or send an e-mail."
