Dagwood Inspires New Chain of Sandwich Shops

By: E&P Staff A chain of "Dagwood's Sandwich Shoppes" will be announced May 11, according to the St. Petersburg Times. The first eatery is slated to open next month in Palm Harbor, Fla.

Readers of the "Blondie" comic know, of course, that Dagwood is a lover of overstuffed sandwiches.

The eateries are the brainchild of Florida-based Dean Young, who, with John Marshall, does the "Blondie" comic that his father -- Chic Young -- began in 1930. Today, "Blondie" runs in more than 2,000 newspapers via King Features Syndicate.
