By: Staff reports Morning News Segment First Of Several Collaborations
The Daily News of New York has partnered with WCBS-TV to begin
producing a collaborative morning news project as the first of
several combined reporting efforts, The New York Times reports.
The minute-long segment will highlight headlines from the day's
paper and track significant developments of the stories. The
segment will air at 5:15 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. every weekday on
Channel 2.
For now, Daily News reporters will not participate in the TV
broadcast. But later joint reporting efforts might appear on
investigative, feature, and sports articles. Collaborative Internet
efforts are also a possibility as the two news organizations
continue to develop their partnership.
'I think newspapers have a larger editorial staff and they can
pursue a greater diversity of subject matter,' Joel Cheatwood,
WCBS-TV news director told the Times. 'It will offer our viewers a
broader content mix.'
Both news organizations are looking for new audiences with WCBS-TV
hoping to attract the Daily News' Brooklyn and Staten Island
readers and the News betting on TV exposure to increase its
readership.
