In the wake of editor/publisher John H. Walker's retirement,
The Daily Southerner announced this week that long-time, local newspaper veteran Calvin Adkins has been named news editor.
Adkins, 52, officially assumed the position Wednesday and will be in charge of the day-to-day operations in the newsroom.
