Dallas-based Belo announced Thursday that Burl Osborne, publisher
of The Dallas Morning News and president of Belo's
Publishing Division, plans to retire on Dec. 31. Succeeding
Osborne, 64, are James M. Moroney III as publisher and chief
executive officer of The Dallas Morning News and Robert W.
Mong Jr. as president and editor of the paper.

Moroney, who most recently was president of Belo Interactive,
will assume his new position on June 18. Mong's title was held by
Osborne prior to his being named publisher of the daily.

"The team of Jim Moroney and Bob Mong is Belo's strongest
commitment yet to realizing the opportunities afforded by
convergence of the company's various media businesses and, in the
instance of the Dallas/Fort Worth market, Belo's co-ownership of
the market's leading newspaper, television broadcasting, cable
news operations, and Internet sites," said Robert W. Decherd,
Belo's chairman, president, and CEO.

"Jim's experience in broadcasting, corporate management and
creating Belo Interactive is a perfect complement for Bob's
extraordinary news and editorial ability, as well as Bob's broad
knowledge of the operating requirements of the Morning
News," continued Decherd in a company statement.

Osborne will retire as an executive officer of Belo at the end of
the year and will assume the title of publisher emeritus. Osborne
joined The Dallas Morning News in October 1980.
