'Dallas Morning News' to Distribute Interactive Magazine Via CD-ROM Inserts

By: E&P Staff The Dallas Morning News has become the first newspaper to agree to distribute Hollywood Previews Entertainment iMagazine. Hollywood Previews will be offered via a monthly CD-ROM insert in the Texas paper's Sunday edition, starting April 30.

Universal Press Syndicate and iMedia International announced the agreement with the Morning News today. Universal had previously announced last August that the co-branded, interactive CD-ROMs were coming in 2006.

"The Dallas Morning News has been expanding its lifestyle-themed products and services to increase the paper's appeal in today's consumer-driven society, especially among younger audiences," said Bernie Heller, the paper's vice president of advertising, in a statement. "Including this innovative digital media magazine in our newspaper creates an engaging and entertaining experience for our readers, as well as additional marketing opportunities for advertisers."

Each issue of Hollywood Previews contains movie trailers, sweepstakes, and interviews with stars. The iMagazine also offers segments about TV shows, delivers new music videos, and spotlights the latest video games. Consumers can purchase tickets, CDs, or DVDs for any of the profiled movies, shows, games, and events directly through the Internet.

"Newspapers can now play a role that Google and Yahoo have played in the past," said Universal President Bob Duffy, whose syndicate is representing iMedia in the CD-ROM distribution. "For example, with Hollywood Previews, The Dallas Morning News can direct readers to DallasNews.com and to the Web sites of their advertisers to view special offers and promotions."
