Chalk up another win for “Bizarro” cartoonist/creator Dan Piraro.

During the 64th Annual Reuben Awards dinner this weekend, hosted by the National Cartoonists Society at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City in New Jersey, Piraro was named Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year. The Reubens are regarded as cartooning’s highest honor.

Previously, his comic strip “Bizarro” won three consecutive Reubens in 2000, 2001 and 2002 for Best Cartoon Panel of the Year. “Bizarro” is distributed by King Features Syndicate.

Piraro also works as an animal rights activist, and for his animal rights-themed cartoons he was awarded the 2002 Humane Society’s Genesis Award for Outstanding Cartoonist. In 2006, the Humane Society of the United States honored him with its highest award, the Genesis Award for Ongoing Commitment.
