By: Meg Campbell Dario Designs of Marlborough, Mass., has won a third award for the design of the Fort Wayne Newspapers production facility in Indiana. The Excellence in Construction award was given by the Building Contractors Association to recognize ?the most outstanding construction projects within a 75-mile radius of Fort Wayne.
Dario had previously received the Hard Hat Award from the Fort Wayne Downtown Improvement District for investing in a project that improves downtown Fort Wayne, as well as the 2007 ARCHIE Award for Outstanding New Construction in a Historic District from ARCH Inc., Fort Wayne's historic preservation organization (see E&P Online, June 21, 2007).
The award-winning $35 million plant is modeled on Fort Wayne's 19th-century train station, and features a railroad trestle bridge that joins the plant with Ft Wayne Newspapers' existing plant across the street. The new facility, which houses a TKS Color Top press, has been has been in operation since last fall, printing the afternoon News-Sentinel and morning Journal-Gazette (E&P, November 2005.)
