David Murphy Becomes VP, GM at 'LAT'

By: E&P Staff The Los Angeles Times appointed David Murphy executive vice president and general manager, effective June 1. He replaces Jeffrey Johnson, who will become president, publisher, and CEO at the same time.

Murphy, 51, has served as president of Tribune Media Net and vice president of advertising for Tribune Publishing since 2000. Prior to that, he was vice president of marketing and sales for the Chicago Tribune.

"Dave is an exceptional newspaper executive and a great addition to our senior management team," said Johnson in a statement. "During his 28 years at Tribune Company, he has demonstrated a proven ability to drive results through strong teams and great customer solutions. More recently, he was instrumental in building Tribune's national advertising sales network. Dave has worked closely with the Times advertising group for many years and we're delighted that he's joining the paper."
