The Center for Integrity in News Reporting (CFINR) is proud to welcome David Sommers as its new independent communications consultant. A seasoned communications executive and former media leader, Sommers brings a wealth of experience in advancing transparency and trust in public institutions.

With more than two decades of experience spanning Fortune 150 companies, municipal government and media enterprises, Sommers brings deep expertise in executive communications, crisis leadership and public trust initiatives.

In roles including chief revenue officer and publisher at Rogue Valley Times, CEO of Pacific Community Media and leadership roles at East Oregonian Media Group, Sommers led transformative strategies that revitalized local journalism, secured major funding and increased digital engagement — outcomes that echo CFINR’s own mission to elevate journalistic standards.

“Trust in journalism is earned through transparency, consistency, engagement and, above all, courage. I’m honored to support CFINR’s mission and help ensure ethical journalism remains a cornerstone of American democracy,” said Sommers.

“David’s proven leadership in high-stakes communication environments and his distinguished news media background align perfectly with our mission to restore the public trust in journalism,” said Rufus Friday, executive director of CFINR. “His insight and strategic counsel will be invaluable as we continue to expand our impact and national presence.”
