Day Buys Sun Blanket Business Assets

Posted
By: E&P Staff Ink and pigments giant Sun Chemical, Parsippany, N.J., said it sold assets of its Sun Graphic press blankets business to Day International, Dayton, Ohio.

The deal is expected to be effective Aug. 31, when Sun will close its Pompano Beach, Fla., blanket-manufacturing plant. The companies will enter into a distribution agreement for the sale of Sun Graphic blankets. Sun Chemical North American Commercial Group President Mark J. Levin said Day agreed to supply Sun Graphic blankets to Sun Chemical for the commercial sheetfed, packaging, and singlewide coldset web markets.

For product-quality and supply continuity, Day will make Sun Graphic blankets in its own facilities before the Florida plant closing. Sun Chemical acquired Sun Graphic in 2004 as part of its purchase of press chemistry manufacturer Rycoline, which it retains.
