By: E&P Staff Mary Stier, president and publisher of the Des Moines Register, has announced she is leaving the paper -- but not to take another newspaper job.
Stier, 50, will become chief executive officer for The Brilliance Group, a national multimedia venture aimed at boomer women. It will be based in Des Moines.
She said in a statement, "I'm proud to have helped women across the country focus their energies and passions to achieve incredible results. These efforts have highlighted for me the need for a multimedia company which serves aspirational boomer women."
Stier has been with Gannett for 25 years. She joined the Iowa City Press-Citizen in 1982 as retail advertising manager and worked her way up to publisher, and later became president and publisher of the Rockford Register Star in Rockford, Ill. Stier was named president and publisher of the Des Moines Register in 2000.
She most recently served as senior group president of two Gannett regional newspaper groups, overseeing the publication of 25 Midwestern and Southern daily newspapers, more than 350 non-daily publications, and 27 Web sites.
