By: E&P Staff The Wall Street Journal will close its printing plant in West Des Moines in mid-April, when Dow Jones & Co. will pay The Des Moines Register to print copies for distribution in four states.
The Journal's 28-year-old plant employs about two-dozen workers. The Register will add six full-time and several part-time jobs when it takes on printing the Journal and Dow Jones' weekly Barron's.
When much of Des Moines lost power during a 1993 flood, the Register was printed at the Dow Jones plant. A few years later, the Register built and equipped a new production plant.
The plant closing follows others by Dow Jones in Illinois, Colorado and Florida in recent months.
