By: E&P Staff The parent company of the Deseret News in Salt Lake City, Utah, is launching a Spanish-language newspaper Feb. 9.
El Observador will publish three times a week. Editions on Tuesdays and Thursdays will focus on hard news while the weekend edition will emphasize family-oriented features, according to a story in the Deseret News by Jasen Lee.
Deseret News Publisher Jim Wall said the paper is intended to serve the "under-represented" Hispanic community in Utah.
El Observador will have an initial home-delivered circulation of 10,000, with another 15,000 copies distributed by rack and bulk drops.
After an initial sampling period, home delivery will cost $5 a month.
"We will always maintain a circulation of 25,000 to stay at 50% market penetration of our primary market with a combination of home delivery and free delivery at racks, banks, stores and churches," Wall said in the Deseret News areticle.
El Observador's newsroom will be headed up by Editor Patricia Quijano Dark, who served as editor of the big Argentinian daily Clarin.
