Detroit Media Partnership Names VP/Research, Development

By: E&P Staff Steve Dorsey has been promoted to vice president for research and development for the Detroit Media Partnership. Dorsey most recently served as deputy managing editor for presentation and innovation for the Detroit Free Press.

Susie Ellwood, the partnership's CEO, wrote in a memo posted at Visual Editors that now is the time to "harness creativity" and move the business in new directions.

Ellwood wrote: "It may seem like an unusual time for us to be adding a new position to the Executive Committee, but in fact, I think this is a critical time to do so. Newspapers traditionally have not invested in being transformative -- and we're paying for it now. With this move we are continuing our commitment to change that -- and continuing our commitment that Detroit Media Partnership will be an industry leader in innovation and problem solving."

Dorsey has worked at the York (Pa.) Daily Record and the Lexington Herald-Leader in Kentucky. He joined the Detroit JOA in 1999. He is currently the vice president of the Society for News Design.
