DETROIT NEWSPAPERS REPORT RECORD WEB TRAFFIC

Detroit Newspapers reported record levels of traffic at the Web sites of The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press. For the month of August, total traffic to the sites totaled more than 19 million page impressions for the month, according to ABC Interactive, the online division of the Audit Bureau of Circulation.



Detnews.com saw its page impressions total 9.6 million, a 4% increase over the previous month and a 21% improvement over the same period a year ago, according to audited figures. Freep.com had page impressions totaling 9.9 million, 1% better than the previous month and 37% better than a year ago.



The Detroit papers are among the very few newspapers that use ABC Interactive for online audits.



The sites also launched a virtual job fair that allows readers to search ads, post r?sum?s online, and contact participating companies via e-mail.



Run in a joint operating agreement, The Detroit News is a Gannett paper, while the Free Press is owned by Knight Ridder.
