By: E&P Staff Deutsche Presse Agentur, Germany's largest independent news service, is partnering with Attributor of Redwood City, Calif., whose technology monitors the Web for instances of unlawful content reuse.
DPA can now promote and sell Attributor's content-monitoring services throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland, where it can protect local publishers from online piracy.
The partnership follows a recent agreement among German publishers Axel Springer, Bauer Media Group, Ganske Verlagsgruppe, Gruner + Jahr, Spiegel Gruppe, and Zeit-Verlag to better protect intellectual property on the Web.
Attributor pioneered a North American consortium (www.fairsyndication.org) to allow publishers be compensated adequately while ensuring distribution of news and information on the Web does not suffer. The consortium is made up of major publishers, groups, and ad networks, including Reuters, Magazine Publishers of America, DPA and others.
