By: E&P Staff The Chester Gould-Dick Tracy Museum -- which will hold an Oct. 25th gala to mark the 75th anniversary of the "Dick Tracy" comic -- is having money troubles.
That's according to a piece in The Woodstock (Ill.) Independent linked on DailyCartoonist.com and ComicsReporter.com.
The Independent piece noted that the Woodstock-based museum -- a not-for-profit entity that draws 4,000 to 7,000 visitors a year -- operates on a $40,000 annual budget and needs $25,000 in annual donations.
Among the highlights of the Oct. 25 gala at the Woodstock Opera House will be a talk by Gould's daughter Jean O'Connell.
"Dick Tracy," which actually turned 75 on Oct. 4, was created by Gould -- who lived in Woodstock for 49 years. The comic is now done by Dick Locher of Tribune Media Services.
