It’ll cost at least $45.5 million to purchase the two biggest newspapers in Santa Ana and Riverside.

That’s the amount of an initial bid for the assets of Freedom Communications, the Santa Ana-based owner of the Orange County Register and the Riverside Press-Enterprise.
