'Doonesbury' and 'Rex' Remain in Va. Paper After Online Poll

Posted
By: E&P Staff After announcing an odd polling faceoff last month between the often-political "Doonesbury" comic and the "Rex Morgan, M.D." story strip, The Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk, Va., decided to keep both features when unveiling a redesign this week.

At one point, 13,193 votes had come in -- with "Doonesbury" leading the online survey by a margin of 72.71% to 27.29% over "Rex."

"Doonesbury" is by Garry Trudeau of Universal Press Syndicate. "Rex," originally created in 1948 by Dr. Nicholas Dallis, is now done by Woody Wilson and Graham Nolan of King Features Syndicate.
