By: Staff Reports San Francisco Start-up Gets First Shot
The Newspaper Guild-Communications Workers of America has filed a
petition at the National Labor Relations Board for 36 employees
who are seeking to unionize at their San Francisco-based Internet
start-up, Reuters reports.
Customer service employees at etown.com and ShopAudioVideo.com
are the first dot-com employees who have decided to vote on union
representation. Organizers expect the final vote on unionizing to
take place in about a month.
Amazon.com employees also have been reported to be seeking union
representation, but they're still seeking enough support to make
an NLRB filing, according to published reports.
Dot-coms that once promised millions through stock options are
now struggling to meet the basic workplace demands of employees
working long hours for low pay.
