By: E&P Staff Caspio Inc. Mountain View, Calif., announced today that the Dow Jones Local Media Group has adopted its enterprise solution for rapid data publishing and hyper-local community applications.
Caspio's point-and-click application-creation platform eliminates the need for programming, allowing the Dow Jones group's newsrooms to quickly publish databases and dynamic Web apps.
The group sought technology that allows journalists to focus on content rather than its deployment according to Sean Polay, DJLMG product manager for distributed media. "Caspio's plug-and-play solutions allow us to do exactly that, and more easily publish intensely local and unique data," he said in a statement.
DJLMG journalists will use Caspio's cloud computing solution to publish interactive database applications that promote community awareness and citizen collaboration. Reporters already have deployed several hyperlocal applications, including GIS-based crime maps, a searchable database of health-inspection violations, real estate listings, and interactive local events calendars.
For 10 years Caspio has offered Platform-as-a-Service to enable non-developers to create Web forms and applications quickly and deploy them to any Website, eliminating infrastructure investments and IT dependence. The company says it powers over 80% of the largest American newspaper Websites.
