Drunkenness Blamed in Idaho Man's Paper-Bale Death

Posted
By: Autopsy reports show a 51-year-old homeless man was very drunk when he was crushed to death in a bale of newspapers.

Authorities said Terrance Fitzpatrick was likely trying to stay warm when he climbed inside a large trash bin the first week of November. His autopsy showed he had a blood alcohol content of 0.28 - more than three times the legal driving limit in Idaho - when he was crushed inside a 1,500-pound bale of newspaper at a recycling center in Garden City on Nov. 7.

Dr. Lee Binnion with Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center said that amount of alcohol intoxication would likely lead to unconsciousness for a light drinker, but not for a heavy drinker or chronic alcoholic.

Ada County Coroner Erwin Sonnenberg said last month that the autopsy showed no evidence of foul play.
