DTI Names Nilan Marketing VP

By: E&P Staff Digital Technology International, Springville, Utah, has appointed Steve Nilan as marketing vice president, a position to which he brings familiarity with the newspaper industry and digital and software-as-a-service expertise.

Before working as an entrepreneur, advisor and investor in high-tech software companies over the last decade, Nilan spent almost 20 years working with vendors to the newspaper industry. He was marketing vice president at System Integrators Inc., where he created the MediaBridge division, which pioneered online classifieds at the Chicago Tribune and other publications in the mid-1990s. Earlier he held positions with PPIMedia, Logicon, Harris Corp. and Composition Systems Inc.

Nilan said in a statement that he was drawn back to newspapers because he "saw the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to contribute to [their] transformation and survival" by joining a growing company with "a clear vision and solutions that are as innovative as those of the best entrepreneurial companies."

Nilan is a venture partner with Velocity Venture Capital, which has invested in more than 20 technology companies including Fundability, a SaaS company he founded and led as CEO. He also co-founded CampusEngine, a venture-backed start-up that Web-enabled college newspapers to create an online network of more than 2 million students.
