By: E&P Staff Hoekstra Boom, Emmeloord, the Netherlands, expects to begin printing on its new Goss Flexible Printing Press within the next few months. The 90,000 copy-per-hour press is being installed in a low-height building "designed to allow for changing requirements in the future," according to Goss.
The press will consist of two doublewide four-high towers with 23.2-inch cut-off and 67.2-inch web width, two pasters and a 2:5:5 modular jaw folder equipped with stitcher, skip slitter and quarterfolding. The press also will have an integrated control system that includes presetting capabilities, predictive maintenance and "self-learning technologies."
The Dutch newspaper printer was the first to order the FPS press with changeable cut-off on the units and the folder. The printer plans to add a second set of cylinders both for printing units and folder, in order to accommodate a wider variety of work.
