By: Meg Campbell The Netherlands' NDC|VBK de uitgevers newspaper/book publishing group will equip a new six-tower ManRoland Geoman 70 press with a combined Jetstream web cleaner and Impact Global automatic blanket cleaning system made by Baldwin Technology of Shelton, Conn.
The equipment will be installed at the publisher?s Leeuwarden plant, which is being expanded to handle production of the group?s two dailies and contract work at a single location. The company plans to take its Grogingen plant offline in 2010. The first two Geoman 70 towers are due to come online by February of 2009, with the remaining four scheduled to go live in early 2010. All towers will be fully equipped with Baldwin?s Jetstream web cleaner and Impact Global systems automatic blanket cleaning system.
Baldwin?s web cleaner uses a stream of high speed air flow to force dirt particles trapped in the top web layer into the vacuum in the cleaning module. The compact system works on both sides of the paper web. ?Baldwin?s process automation technology will reduce wastage to the minimum and ensure the new press is as efficient as possible,? said Hans Verwijs, the plant?s project manager at NDC|VBK.
