Eagle Newspapers' New Owners Look to Ride Out the Storm

By: The new owners of the Eagle Newspapers say they'll keep the eight central New York weeklies and their Web sites open.

Community Media Group bought Eagle Media, owner of the Eagle Newspapers and Spotlight newspapers in Albany, on Oct. 1.

David Tyler Jr. of Syracuse, publisher of Eagle Newspapers and 1 of the principal owners of Community Media, says the new owners' goal is to weather the transition taking place in the newspaper industry.

Eagle Newspapers publishes the Baldwinsville Messenger, Cazenovia Republican, Eagle Bulletin, Eagle Observer, Madison Eagle, Skaneateles Press, Syracuse City Eagle and the Star-Review.

It also publishes several niche publications including Syracuse Parent.
