Early Aviation Columnist Mannie Berlinhut Dead at 94

By: E&P Staff Early aviation columnist Emanuel B. Berlinhut died at his Long Valley, N.J., home Oct. 13. He was 94.

The owner of public relations firm E.B. Berlinhut & Associates, in New York City and earlier with Ted Stern Associates, "Mannie" Berlinhut had one of the first newspaper aviation columns, according to The Star-Ledger, Newark, N.J.

Berlinhut began his career as a reporter and aviation editor at the Newark Sunday Call. He was elected president of the Newark Newspaper Guild in 1940 and was a founder of the Aviation Writers of America.

The Russian-born Berlinhut served as a captain in the Army Air Corp in World War Two and as a major in the Air Force Reserve.
