EARNHARDT DISPUTE IN MEDIATION

Posted
By: Randy Dotinga Court Hearing Is Scheduled For Monday

The dispute over the autopsy photos of racing legend Dale Earnhardt wound up in
mediation Friday, while Florida legislators moved to limit access to the
pictures. Officials representing the Orlando Sentinel and Earnhardt's
widow, Teresa, were expected to continue negotiations with a mediator pending a
court hearing Monday.

The Sentinel wants a medical expert to examine the photos to determine
how Earnhardt died at the Daytona 500 in February; Earnhardt's family fears the
photos will wind up on the Internet. Florida legislators appear likely to pass
some type of legislation either limiting or banning access to autopsy photos,
which are now classified as public records in the state.

Randy Dotinga is a free-lancer based in San Diego.
