By: E&P Staff The East Valley Tribune Wednesday became four tabloid editions with selective free distributions in its greater Phoenix, Ariz., market that will no longer publish every day of the week.
The Mesa Tribune, Gilbert Tribune, Chandler Tribune and Queen Creek Tribune will publish four days a week: Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The tabs will be home-delivered for free in certain neighborhoods, and will be available at newsracks in their communities. The papers will be delivered through racks at stores including Circle K and Walgreens, the Tribune said.
Tribune Publisher Julie Moreno said the combined distribution of the tabloids is being increased100,000 copies daily, but their distribution area is being redefined to achieve greater market penetration.
Moreno said the tabloids will provide the "news and information needs of these four East Valley communities in a more focused and more available way." The Tribune is published by Freedom Communications.
Each Tribune edition will have two tabloid sections, a front section with local news of each of the four cities followed by a second section called Take 2 that will contain local sports and entertainment news.
Included in the front section will be regional and national news, business news, opinion pages and classified ads.
The East Valley Tribune will continue to give its name to a Web site that will operate around the clock every day, the paper said. The site has been redesigned with new interactive features said Editor Chris Coppola, who said the relaunched papers "will not waiver in our mission as it watchdog, occasional critic and unabashed champion of its people and causes."
